One great advantage to being raised in the church and raising our family in the LDS church is the healthy life style that we all enjoy. As members of the church we don't drink alcohol or coffee and we don't smoke or use tobacco. I have had friends ask: "If you don't drink, how do you relax?" I truly feel that living the code of health that we do has given me a lot less stress to deal with. For example:
* I have not had to experience a child with a drug addiction.
* I have never had my husband or a teenager come home drunk.
* I have not had to ever wonder what I did or said while I was under the influence.
* I have not had to depend on a morning cup of coffee to wake up.
* We have all learned to deal with problems head on because escaping problems by using alcohol is not an option.
* We have saved a great deal of money by not having to buy alcohol, cigarettes and coffee.
* We have all had better than average health and thus avoided many potential healthcare costs.
* My children have not had to see me cranky because I need drugs or caffeine etc. (although there have been other reasons to witness crankiness.)
* No one in the family has ever lost a job due to habits that interfered with their ability to do their job.
* Our children and grandchildren have been born with strong bodies and free from addiction.
* I don't have to look for a smoking room at an airport.
* I don't have to worry about exposing the kids to 2nd hand smoke.
* We don't have to worry that our family will have to deal with a crime committed by any of us while under the influence.
* We are all able to plan for many years of good health to spend with our grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
By not drinking alcohol we live a similar lifestyle to a recovering alcoholic who should not take even one drink again ever. The big difference is that we don't have the incredible cravings for alcohol or the broken life that alcoholism can cause. We feel incredibly free.
This blog celebrates the happiness that we have found as a family as we live the principles outlined by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (affectionately called the Mormons.)

Why Mormons Value Families so Much
I think that the reason that we as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints value our families so much is because we believe that strong families are the best way for us to return to live with our Father in Heaven again. Families provide the framework for nurturing, teaching and helping children to progress. When societies have strong families, they prosper, when the family falls apart, societies suffer.
Another unique perspective that we enjoy is the belief that by being sealed together in our Temples, we can be together with our spouse and children forever. "Until death do we part" isn't really good enough. When we know that our family relationships can last beyond the grave, we have a greater desire to invest in relationships that are eternal.
Each of us believe that we will be a family after this life. If death were to take one of our family members, we would be very sad and miss them greatly but we would also feel great peace, knowing that we will one day be together again forever.
